To Noise Pollution

Sound Suppressers

The uses of personal sound suppressers or ear plugs is a highly effective means of limiting exposure to noise. They suppress or attenuate both impulse and continuous noise. They can also make noisy situations more tolerable and reduce noise generated stress, fatigue, and irritability. Sound suppressers can also help prevent hearing loss.

Why Sound Waves™?

Eartronix provides a unique line of personal sound suppressers. They are custom-made for the ear. These custom-made ear plugs provide users with a comfortable, custom fit.
Sound Waves™ have an NRR (noise reduction rating) of twenty-eight (28). This rating was obtained by submitting Sound Waves™ to attenuation test at an independent laboratory.
Sound Waves™ are made of Poly Sheer II™, a proprietary material, that provides a tight seal and helps keep out loud unwanted sounds. A cast (model) of each ear is stored, so that replacements of sound suppressers can be quickly and conveniently made, without the need for new impressions.

Noise... noise... noise

Noise is a fact of modern life. It is ever present in cities, pollutes rural landscapes, and has even invaded the once quiet home front. Noise can be annoying and distracting. It can prove harmful to your health and well-being.

Noise Can Be Bad For Your Health
Exposure to noise has numerous negative effects:

· Irritability

· Fatigue

· Stress

· Heightened blood pressure

· Sleeplessness

· Decreased productivity on the job

· Tinnitus (continual ringing in the ears)

· Hearing loss

Continued exposure to noise creates physical and psychological stress. It can reduce on -the-job performance, affect relationships, and increase irritability. Noise can also quicken the pulse rate, raise breathing rates, and increase blood pressure. Noise can be painful and damage your hearing.

A one-time exposure to extremely loud sounds (gun shots) and repeated or continuous exposure to high intensity noise can cause a temporary hearing loss, or even worse, a permanent hearing loss.

Noise can damage the hair cells in the inner ear. Once damaged, they can no longer signal the auditory nerve to send sounds to the brain. Hearing becomes impaired. The onset of a hearing loss is often gradual, and the loss is often unrecognized until it becomes difficult to follow conversations, understand speech in noisy places, or hear the television and radio.

Current federal noise regulations limit worker exposure to 85dB (decibels) of noise on the job. Time limits are set for on the job exposure to noise. OSHA (Occupational Safety and Health Administration) has further criteria that noise levels should not exceed 115dB. ISO (International Standards Organization) controls noise exposure down through 80 dB.

Who is at risk?

On the job, numerous workers are confronted with loud and potentially harmful noises. Among those workers especially at risk are equipment and machinery operators, police officers, factory workers, firefighters, farmers, musicians, computer personnel, and construction workers. Sportsmen and women can also be at risk, when flying small planes, shooting guns, riding motorcycles, operating jet skis or snow mobiles, playing amplified musical instruments, or driving off-road vehicles. At home, potentially bothersome or harmful noise levels can be generated by garden equipment, power tools, stereos, and boom boxes.
